Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy (Policy) describes how The Young Leaders Club CIC collects, uses, shares, and retains personally identifiable information. The policy is effective as of 01 January 2024. We are registered with the Information Commissioners Office, the UK’s Data Protection Authority.

Data Collection

The Young Leaders Club CIC collects and maintains a variety of personally identifiable information, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment information, business addresses, information such as the local authority area or industry sector of the business and details of The Young Leaders Club CIC services the users may be interested in. The Young Leaders Club CIC collects information directly from individuals or from the parent businesses of the individuals. The information could be collected through e-mails, phone calls, online registration forms, event registration forms and face to face meetings. The Young Leaders Club CIC does not collect personal data about individuals except when there is a legitimate business requirement.

Users should also be aware that non-personal information and data may be automatically collected through the standard operation of The Young Leaders Club CIC web servers, and by the use of cookies technology and/or Internet Protocol (IP) address tracking. Non-personal identification information might include the browser used by you, the type of computer, the operating systems, the internet service providers, and other similar information. The Young Leaders Club CIC web server also automatically gathers information about the viewed and visited pages and links on our website, entry and exit points, number of form completions, time spent on pages, downloads, keywords used offsite to lead customers to our website, your internet protocol (IP) address, information collected via cookies, the areas you visit on the website and the links you may select from within the website to other external websites. The information thus collected enables us to develop and customise our services better to meet your needs and preferences, and to bring to your attention member services, events, networking opportunities and training courses.

Purpose of Processing

The personal data collected is used by The Young Leaders Club CIC to give you information relating to its services, customer relationship management and to process and respond to queries received from the public or other relevant stakeholders, to contact you to seek your views or comments on emerging political or economic issues and to send marketing communications on behalf of The Young Leaders Club CIC or strategic partners. The personal data held by The Young Leaders Club CIC may also be used on an aggregate basis without any personal identifiers to provide third parties with information, such as the composition of membership, and to help us develop new member services and products, improve the features and content of the website or other marketing material, and to provide sponsors and others with aggregate information about our members, website users and their usage patterns in relation to services and/or the website.

If you or your parent business are a current member of The Young Leaders Club CIC, opting out of promotional emails will not stop all communication from us. By becoming a member of The Young Leaders Club CIC your business is signing you up to receiving certain information related to the organisation. It is a constitutional requirement for us to send this information to you.

If you are not a member of The Young Leaders Club CIC or if you or your parent business’s membership has lapsed, you can choose to opt in or out of further contact with us.

Data Retention

Personal data collected from individuals and their parent businesses is used to administer the accounts of members, patrons and customers and to deliver The Young Leaders Club CIC services. We will not pass personal data on to any third party to allow them to contact individuals for marketing purposes without the consent of the individual concerned. The data will not be transferred to any agency located outside the EU.

Personal data is retained to keep a record of service provisions and enable the relationship management for the period of service provision and membership subscription. Contact details of resigned members and patrons are retained for a period of three years.

Security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to only those employees, contractors or agents who have a legitimate business need to have access to that data. The employees, contractors or agents will process your personal data in accordance with our instructions. They will be subject to a duty of confidentiality and due care with respect to handling the personal data. We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected data security breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected breach where we are legally required to do so. The Young Leaders Club CIC employees are trained on data security and information protection. Relevant areas of The Young Leaders Club CIC website will employ encryption technology to enhance data privacy and help prevent loss, misuse, or alteration of the information collected and retained by The Young Leaders Club CIC.

The Young Leaders Club CIC is a membership organisation and for its legitimate business interests, must maintain contact information on its members and the wider business community to communicate information on membership, events, policy, products or services. The Young Leaders Club CIC also sends promotional material promoting its events, membership services and other relevant offerings. From time to time, The Young Leaders Club CIC collaborates with other relevant organisations to conduct surveys and promote other events that may be of interest to members and the wider business community. In such cases, The Young Leaders Club CIC does not provide these organisations with any personally identifiable information but may distribute the organisation’s information on their behalf to those who may legitimately be benefiting from receiving such information or have elected to receive such information. If you do not wish to receive marketing material, you may opt out. Every marketing e-mail will include an ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom. You may also notifyThe Young Leaders Club CIC in writing as set out below. If your parent business has nominated you as a relevant contact required to receive information on its behalf, you cannot opt out of important information The Young Leaders Club CIC Ltd is required to provide you as per The Young Leaders Club CIC contractual obligations to its members.

Third Party Marketing and Surveying Tools

We may use third party provided tools to manage our social media interactions, Mailchimp to dispatch email marketing campaigns and Survey Monkey to collect survey response data. Personal email data may be stored by Mailchimp for this purpose, and any direct messages sent to a The Young Leaders Club CIC social media accounts may be stored by Planable. This data will not be shared with any other organisations.

Access, Review and Correction

The General Data Protection Regulation gives you the right to access your personal data held by us (“subject access request”). Subject access requests must be made in writing to the details below. We will endeavour to respond to the request within 30 days as required by the GDPR.

It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. We will take all reasonable measures to ensure that the personal data we hold about you is accurate. When you make a request to access or review the personal data we hold about you, we will request you to verify your identity before the request can be fulfilled.

Films or Photography at our Events

Photographs and/or film footage will be taken at all Phoenix Business Club events. The processing of these images is necessary for the legitimate interests pursued by The Young Leaders Club CIC and its partners, including the following third-party organisations: Bootcamp Media. The images will be used for the following purposes:

The group’s printed publicity

The group’s online publicity (including but not limited to WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Twitter)
Sharing with group members for personal use only
Sharing with third-party organisations for use in their printed and online publicity.
Digital copies of the images will be securely stored and will not be kept for longer than they are needed for the purposes listed above.

In addition to the rights of access, you have the right to object to your personal data being processed for any particular purpose, or to request that we stop using your information. Phil Hocking

Now based in the UK and working as Next Generation Talent Consultant for Lloyds Bank, Phil is a celebrated advocate for inclusion and youth empowerment, recognised as a REACH (Race Ethnic & Cultural Heritage Network) Role Model, Apprentice Ambassador, and BOLD (Black Organisation for Leadership & Development) Regional Lead. His work blends performance, poetry, and public speaking, often spotlighting themes of identity, resilience, and transformation.
 
Whether mentoring young talent, hosting cultural showcases, or crafting spoken word pieces, Phil brings heart, humour, and humanity to every stage he steps on. He believes in the power of storytelling to change lives—and lives that belief every day.

Cllr Waseem Zaffar MBE JP

Waseem Zaffar is a social justice campaigner, an advocate for a better environment, a political activist, father of three boys and an excited Aston Villa season ticket holder. Born and bought up in Lozells, he has served as its Councillor since 2011. On Birmingham City Council he has served as the Cabinet lead for transport, environment, clean air, climate change, highways, equalities, social justice, community safety and creating a cohesive city.
As well as being the Director of Midlands Community Solutions CIC, Waseem is a Board Member of The Active Wellbeing Society and Associate Director of the Clean Air Justice Network.

Waseem was for many years a Justice of Peace on the Birmingham & Solihull bench, as well as the CEO of a Handsworth not-for-profit organisation. His community work has been recognised by several awards including an MBE for services to the voluntary sector.

He also served for eight years as a Non-Executive Director of Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust, which includes City Hospital, where he was born. At the Trust, he chaired the Charity Funds Committee and Integration Committee. He previously served as a Director of Birmingham International Airport and the West Side Business Improvement District.

Waseem is Chair of Governors at Heathfield Primary School, which he attended as a child and where his sons are pupils today. Always a proud Brummie, Waseem developed the successful Birmingham Heritage Week which has just completed its tenth year. The projects promote the Birmingham story over many years and the learning, achievements and contributions of the communities that have come, gone and stayed in brilliantly diverse Birmingham.

During his time on Birmingham City Council, Waseem has led on developing several high profile projects including the Birmingham Clean Air Zone, the Birmingham Transport Plan, Route to Zero Climate Change Action Plan, Perry Barr Transport Transformation, Birmingham Clean Air Strategy and Birmingham Heritage Week.

Her experience working across many sectors with leaders to understand organisational challenges means she has unique expertise in understanding people and the know-how to provide solutions which bring transformational success. These skills and qualities are why we are delighted to have Tash join The Young Leaders Club as one of our Ambassadors.

Santina Bunting

Santina Bunting stands out as a trailblazer; she was the only one out of 150 students to embark on an apprenticeship journey after GCSEs. She completed her Level 3 Civil Engineering Apprenticeship at Arup in two years, earning a Distinction*Distinction* in her BTEC. Now a qualified Technician with the Institute of Civil Engineers, Santina is in her second year of a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship at Warwick University whilst also working at Arup
 
Within her role Santina is responsible for database management, drawing production and engineering analysis and has had the opportunity to work on  a range of major infrastructure projects both nationally and internationally.
 
Santina was recently the Youngest overall winner of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Young Professional of the year 2024 in its 24-year history as well as Apprentice of the year winner. She was also the Construction Excellence G4C Apprentice of the Year 2024 and won Highly Commended in the Engineering category of the Multicultural apprenticeship awards 2023.
 
Passionate about empowering apprentices, Santina has spoken at esteemed venues such as the House of Lords and the Annual Apprenticeship Conference, also contributing to the UCAS Apprenticeship Advisory group and the government recent skills for life campaign

Casey Bailey

Casey Bailey is an award winning writer, performer and educator, born and raised in Nechells, Birmingham, UK. Casey was the Birmingham Poet Laureate 2020 - 2022.

Casey’s second full poetry collection Please Do Not Touch was published by Burning Eye in 2021. In 2023 ‘Legacy’ - an in depth exploration of 20 years of the Birmingham Grime and Hip Hop scene - co-authored with Jess Monroe was published. Casey’s debut play GrimeBoy had a sold out run at the Birmingham Rep in April, 2022. He was commissioned by the BBC to write ‘The Ballad of The Peaky Blinders’ in 2019. In 2020 the poem was internationally recognised, winning a Webby Award. In 2022 Casey won a Royal Television Society award for a film for his poem “Dear Brum”. Casey has performed his poetry nationally, and internationally.

Casey was named as one of the Alfred Fagon Awards’ Black Champions of Theatre in 2021. He is a Fellow of the University of Worcester and in 2021 was awarded an honorary doctorate in Education by Newman University.

Zoe Bennett, BEM
